Peaceful Communication in a Difficult World

Learn how to communicate more effectively with someone with a strong lizard brain / with a difficult person

This is my fourth, essential on-demand workshop after the “Lizard vs Wizard Brain,” “Fear Regulation: Going from Critical to Kind Voice,”  and “Understanding Difficult People: Firestone’s Defense Mechanisms” classes. It teaches communication techniques to onboard your wizard brain, (prefrontal cortex or executive function).

According to relational neuroscience quality connections lead to higher states of brain integration individually and collectively.  Compassionate or nonviolent communication (NVC) was created by Marshall Rosenberg as a way to improve the quality of connection between people.  Thus, Heidi teaches NVC because she sees it as a way to increase brain integration and improve relationships.

You would watch this class if you want to know how to improve your communication (hint: develop a feeling and needs vocabulary, listen in to learn more and use the handouts provided). You’d watch if you want tips to slow down communication with someone where it feels difficult, so you can get them to hear what you’re saying and vice versa, (hint: it has to do with following the 4 steps outlined in the 2nd 18 min video).

Heidi has a specific 4 x 4 workshop (4 clients for 4 hours in an online group,) where she helps participants identify a problematic communication issue and how to work with it applying the principles in this class, (if interested send Heidi an email on the contact form and you can get placed on the 4 x 4 waitlist by going to "services" on the home page). An added benefit of learning and practicing this type of communication is that it grows integrative fibers in your prefrontal cortex, allowing for more response flexibility and regulating of your fear and emotions.

The following resources are included when you purchase the class the following is included: some key slides from the presentation, feelings and needs lists and printable cards for practice, the “4 components” slide and a worksheet to track applying these within and with the other person, approximately 75 minutes of video (where the first is the official class, the second is an explanation of how to practice this form of communication following the 4 steps, and a bonus 5 minute recording where Heidi is role playing with a mother to improve communication with her teenage son).

  • Video explaining how NVC onboards higher reasoning
  • Demonstration video
  • Video outlining the 4 steps for how to practice NVC

See the above video from Heidi's YouTube channel @theheidicrockett which includes slides from this workshop.
