I'M HERE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AS YOU LEARN AND GROW THROUGH A FASCINATING ADVANCED YEAR BRAIN HEALTH JOURNEY.  THE SECOND YEAR IS ABOUT MAKING THE CONTENT PERSONAL AND APPLICABLE TO YOU.

Of the 16 meetings, eight are Group Sessions where we review and discuss the prerecorded videos on the 9 Levels. These sessions also include breakout-room exercises and other interactive activities.

The remaining eight meetings are Peer Practice Sessions. During these sessions, you'll partner with one or more participants in breakout rooms, usually for longer periods than during Group Sessions.

Brain Science Strategies Can Immediately Elevate Happiness

No matter where you’re starting from, neuroscience practices help you quickly gain insights into the "United States of You" or guide others in doing the same.

With this information, you learn to navigate different states of being, recognizing when you or your clients are in different mental states (“Texas” or “Alaska”), and how to effectively move into your optimal state of "Home," where lasting well-being and balance thrive.

I'M HERE TO GUIDE YOU ON YOUR JOURNEY.

Let’s Walk Through The Syllabus Of How The Advanced Year Professional Certificate in Brain Health Unfolds
With 16 live meetings hosted by Heidi (a mix of classes and peer practice sessions), recorded lectures, and an online learning platform where you can chat, network and ask questions while on the path towards personal and/or professional growth.
MODULE ONE

Level 1 Consciousness

Module One takes a deeper look at the Plane of Possibility and explores how consciousness moves among peaks, plateaus, and the open plane. It also examines trauma as an indelible plateau: a fixed filter that can shape how present experience is perceived and interpreted.

Complete this module being able to:

  • Use water and light imagery to explain peaks, plateaus, and the open plane of possibility
  • Describe how a sweep-loop quality of attention can shift consciousness from the rim toward the spaciousness of the hub
  • Explain why silent meditation can intensify distress when a person is experiencing awareness from inside a plateau of trauma
  • Explore how mindful awareness practices and secure relationships are understood within IPNB as supporting differentiation, linkage, and access to the Plane of Possibility
  • Use the SOCK model to explore how sensation, observation, conceptual knowing, and nonconceptual knowing shape conscious experience
MODULE TWO

Level 2 Bilateral Hemispheric Integration

Module Two explores the processing tendencies associated with the left and right hemispheres. The course uses the terms Narrator and Experiencer to make these two modes of processing easier to recognize. Although complex experiences involve both sides of the brain, each hemisphere may contribute differently to how an experience is processed.

Complete the module being able to:

  • Evaluate evidence for hemispheric specialization without reducing people to "left-brained" or "right-brained" types
  • Describe the Narrator and Experiencer as two complementary ways of being
  • Recognize language, sequencing, and detail-focused processing alongside embodied, contextual, relational, and nonverbal processing
  • Connect the Known and Knowing of the 1st Level with the Narrator and Experiencer of the 2nd Level
  • Recognize when someone is relying heavily on one mode and what information may be receiving less attention
  • Practice differentiating and linking the two modes to create a left-right mode of resonance
MODULE THREE

Level 3 Vertical Integration

Module Three explores vertical integration as the capacity to remain connected to the 9 skills of the wizard brain while experiencing emotional intensity. It examines how inhibitory control creates space between an automatic impulse and a more deliberate response.

Complete the module being able to:

  • Define vertical integration and describe how inhibition supports the shift from reacting to responding
  • Use the pilot, plane, and turbulence metaphor to explain how the width of a person’s window of tolerance affects their ability to remain steady during emotional intensity
  • Identify the five areas in the course framework that the wizard brain monitors: the cortex, limbic regions, brainstem, body, and social world
  • Use FDA to remember three key roles of the wizard brain: focusing attention, delaying response, and allocating resources
  • Explore how shifting attention from what you do not want toward what you do want can support intention, direction, and meaning
  • Examine how the capacity to choose a response contributes to identity and meaning-making
  • Understand integration as an ongoing process rather than a fixed state
MODULE FOUR

Level 4 Memory Integration

Module Four explores memory as an ongoing process through which past experiences influence present responses, rather than a fixed recording of what happened. Within the IPNB framework, it examines how differentiating and linking implicit and explicit memory can support intention, choice, and a more coherent personal narrative.

Complete this module knowing:

  • Explain how implicit memory can shape sensations, emotions, perceptions, and behavior without feeling like a memory of the past
  • Examine how the remembering self’s present mood, bodily state, and social context influence the remembered story
  • Explore the course’s three tools for memory work: executive function capacities, imagination and abstract thought, and kindness as a mental representation of the compassionate other
  • Use “trauma time” and SIFT (Sensations, Images, Feelings, and Thoughts) to explore one specific moment within a larger memory
  • Use the “memory capsule” framework to distinguish collapse/submit and fight patterns, including their protective roles, bodily sensations, and associated beliefs
  • Describe how a new or mismatching experience may support memory updating, and explore how new meaning can be woven into a person’s larger narrative
MODULE FIVE AND SIX

Level 5 Narrative and Level 6 State Integration

Module Five explores how mental time travel and mindsight help us make a coherent story. Module Six shifts attention from the storyline to the states influencing it, exploring how different parts of our experience can coexist without one state defining the whole self.

Complete these 2 modules being able to:

  •  Distinguish working with a particular memory at Level 4 from weaving memories into a larger life story at Level 5, with the present-day remembering self connecting the two
  • Select one story within a recurring life theme, explore one element using ABCDE (Associations, Beliefs, Cognitions, Developmental phase, and Emotions), and link it back to the larger narrative
  • Use subjective experience, awareness, and regulation as three, IPNB-informed lenses for understanding someone's capacity to integrate their story
  • Distinguish intrastate integration (within one state), interstate integration (between states), and interpersonal state integration (integrating your own states as you interact with others)
  • Explain the course’s distinction between cohesion, how experience fits together now, and coherence, how changing states and experiences fit together across time
  • Use the “internal song” metaphor to explore how state influences story, and practice kind voice to address the state beneath the words rather than only changing the storyline
  • Recognize rigidity and chaos, use response flexibility to work toward returning to the window of tolerance, and describe FACES flow: Flexible, Adaptive, Coherent, Energized, and Stable

MODULE SEVEN

Level 7 Relationship Integration (Attachment)

Module Seven explores how to honor differences while remaining caringly connected. It examines attachment as both learned patterns and an ongoing relational process, with opportunities to practice holding different perspectives, communicating needs, and repairing disconnection.

Complete this module being able to:

  • Distinguish learned attachment patterns from the ongoing process of responding more flexibly, staying connected, and repairing relational ruptures
  • Examine how past relationships shape present expectations: whether closeness feels safe, needs will be met, and disconnection can be repaired
  • Describe containment as holding multiple realities at once, including your experience and another’s, so emotional intensity does not require losing yourself, the connection, or the possibility of repair
  • Apply mentalization and reflective function to consider both people’s inner worlds, and practice contingent communication by perceiving signals, making sense of them, and responding in ways that support connection and repair
  • Deepening your exploration of attachment as a process that continues to evolve in adulthood, even as less secure childhood patterns cast “synaptic shadows” into the present. See Heidi’s blog post on using kind voice to support more secure attachment for slides from the 7th and 8th Levels.
MODULE EIGHT

Level 8 Time Integration

Module Eight covers what it looks like to live a meaningful life while facing what's called the "pain of living," (in other words this level is about possessing the skill of grieving, holding the fact that we all die one day and simultaneously finding purpose).

Complete this module knowing:

  • What "practicing not knowing" or being in uncertainty looks and feels like (and what deficits in this look and feel like) for ourselves and our clients
  • Techniques to support clients with this most difficult level (and what situations and types of people tend to have deficits in integrating this level)
  • How to weave in spirituality and meaning starting with scientific terms then expanding to meet clients with the language and belief(s) that support them
MODULE NINE

Level 9 Identity Integration

This module examines all eight levels and how they deepen and expand into the ninth level.

Complete this module knowing:

  • How to help clients raise their integration level whatever level they are at today
  • The "mwe" concept which can help intensify differentiation and linkage of individual and collective identities
  • A review of the 9 Levels and 9 Skills of the wizard brain
  • A discussion on integration within yourself, as a brain health expert and coach, and in the world
  • How we all possess a ceiling in our perceptions, and we are capable of neuroplasticity, such as strengthening the 9 Levels learned in this professional brain health certificate
As the next live cohort, Heidi is committed to letting the program develop according to the group's unfolding needs.
